Journey to the Resurrection: Through the Eyes of Children is a collection of 18 tempera painting created by 6th graders in an upstate New York Christian school in 1980. They studied the work of Georges Rouault and then implemented his technique using black outlines to give structure to the images … much like stained glass windows.

The colors are bright. The sequence is not the traditional stations of the cross, but depictions of 18 events as they unfold though the Passion, but continue to delightful interpretation of the Resurrection.

The series begins with Palm Sunday scene of Jesus riding a donkey into Jerusalem followed by a Last Supper scene and then moves into the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus praying is accented by a stream of light. The children have found ways to denote the darkening of the sky surrounding the death of Jesus, helping us grasp the intensity and gravity of the day. They have also changed palette use light to celebrate the Resurrection. Enjoy!!

It is the hope of Journey to the Resurrection: Through the Eyes of Children will help the viewer see the Scriptures anew, with fresh insights, offering us an opportunity to as Jesus said, Ye must become as children.
